Implemented in partnership with Freemuse, the project builds on existing initiatives and experiences in analysing threats to artistic freedom to improve and develop joint documentation, monitoring and advocacy, nationally, regionally and internationally. Whereas Freemuse in the past has initiated and collaborated with partners on UN UPR submissions, the project also aims to sensitize partners in how their current work may qualify them to develop and prepare inputs as well as submissions to UNESCO’s QPR mechanism. As a result of the project, the Freemuse Global Reports—The State of Artistic Freedom—from 2024 onwards will incorporate the new inputs from these exchanges, and Freemuse and its partners will develop further collaborations on QPR and UPR inputs as well as communications to UN Special Rapporteurs, and other regional and international rights mechanisms.
