Event
Psychometrics Workshop. Comparative and Explanatory Regional Study (ERCE 2025)
What is the Psychometrics Workshop?
The purpose of the workshop is to provide fundamental knowledge on psychometric analysis applied to educational assessment. Participants will learn how to use psychometric tools that ensure the reliability, validity, and fairness of assessment instruments, which is crucial for guaranteeing the quality of education systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Who is it aimed at?
The event is intended for technical teams and specialists in educational assessment from the ERCE member countries, who have been specially invited. These teams will be trained in the use of advanced psychometric techniques for the analysis of educational instruments, with the aim of improving evaluation practices and generating solid evidence to support decision-making in educational policies.
Objectives
The main objectives of the workshop include:
- Providing the foundations for psychometric analysis in educational assessment.
- Applying tools that ensure the quality and fairness of assessment instruments.
- Analysing large-scale measurement results to strengthen evaluation systems in the region.
Additionally, as part of the activities, the seminar "From Measurement to Action: Improving Education in Latin America" will take place, where experts in educational policies will discuss the results of the assessments and their implications for public policy.
Why is it important?
Large-scale educational assessment is key to monitoring the quality of education systems and guiding effective reforms. The use of psychometric methodologies ensures that evaluations are reliable and valid, allowing for the collection of accurate data on student learning. This data is essential for designing policies that aim for the continuous improvement of education in the region.
How will the event unfold?
The workshop will consist of theoretical and practical sessions covering topics from the fundamentals of measurement to the use of theories such as Classical Test Theory and Item Response Theory. Test items will be analysed, and participants will work on constructing scales to measure factors associated with learning. This approach will allow participants to apply the concepts learned to real studies, such as ERCE.
Through this workshop, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to improving the quality of education in Latin America by providing the countries of the region with tools and knowledge that contribute to more effective and equitable educational assessment.
