UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Calletano de Jesús Guerrero in Mexico
I condemn the killing of Calletano de Jesús Guerrero and call for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Impunity for crimes against journalists, must not be allowed to prevail, regardless of the time it takes.
Calletano de Jesús Guerrero was Deputy Director-General of the news platform Global Mexico. He was reportedly shot dead by armed men on a motorcycle in a parking lot in the city of Teoloyucan, state of Mexico, Mexico. He had been under federal protection since 2014, and had reportedly received threats in the days before his killing.
