Call for partnerships: Film Residency for Young Women Filmmakers in Africa

The call is open until 06 April 2025 to not-for-profit organisations/institutions, legally registered and operating in Africa, to design and implement a film residency for young women filmmakers in Africa.

UNESCO is seeking a partner to design and implement a four-week residency programme, which will support ten emerging African women filmmakers in strengthening their creative, technical, and professional skills in 2025.  

The selected partner will be responsible for: 

  • Residency management, including logistics, coordination, and implementation;

  • Monitoring and communication throughout the programme;

  • Post-residency follow-up to ensure continued professional development of participants.

Eligible applicants must be legally registered for at least five years and operating in Africa. This includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs);

  • Research institutes and universities;

  • Foundations and professional associations;

  • Intergovernmental organizations.

This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive African film industry by addressing gender disparities and promoting diverse storytelling. Participants will develop ten short films that reflect their unique perspectives, while also gaining industry connections and career development opportunities.

This activity is funded by an Additional Contribution from the People鈥檚 Republic of China to UNESCO and builds on the recommendations for capacity building outlined in the UNESCO report 鈥鈥. It also follows the successful UNESCO-Nara Film Residency for young women African filmmakers
