Daniel April joined the GEM Report team in 2018. He is the coordinator of the and his research work within the team largely focuses on teachers. Prior to this, he held various roles, including Academic Director at Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia, Canada, and French as a Second Language Teacher at Université Sainte-Anne and the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Additionally, he served as a Research Associate at Université Laval in Québec, Canada. Since 2016, Daniel has been the Vice-President of Communications for the Association pour le développement de l’enseignement et de la recherche en administration de l'éducation (ADERAE) and has been a member of the advisory board since 2014.
Daniel holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies, a Master's in Educational Administration and Evaluation - Planning and Management (M.A.), and a B.Ed. in French Second Language Education from Université Laval, Québec, Canada. He also possesses certificates in Spanish and English language from Université Laval. Currently, he is a student in the International Cooperation and Solidarity programme at Université de Montréal, Québec, Canada.
His research interests encompass pedagogical supervision, instructional leadership, professional learning communities and results-based management approaches. Daniel has contributed to six books, one chapter, and fifteen articles published in scientific journals, including six as the first author as part of the research team led by Yamina Bouchamma at Université Laval. He has presented over thirty papers at national scientific conferences in Canada and internationally, actively participating in the organization of symposia, workshops, and two research-action-training projects in Québec.
Daniel is a two-time recipient of the Governor General's Academic Medal of Canada (2008 and 2019) and was awarded the Vanier Research Fellowship (2016-2017) and the Thomas B. Greenfield Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation in Educational Administration in Canada (2020).
