UNESCO Earth Network Missions
Earth Network missions are organised at the request of UNESCO designated sites managers or authorities, in consultation with the National Commissions for UNESCO and its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), and with the National Committees for the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, the International Geoscience and Geoparks Programme (IGGP) and the Ocean Decade.
The goal of each mission is to provide technical advice, generate data, provide on-site training and build partnerships. The Earth Network provides financial and logistical support to the missions, as well as communications coverage.
Each deployment becomes an opportunity to foster intergenerational exchanges: the Earth Network systematically pairs a senior and a junior scientist/practitioner from the roster of experts to support the needs of the site.
