Sharing knowledge
Producing knowledge, sharing data
The Earth Network contributes to the knowledge-base on ecosystem management, restoration and resilience in UNESCO-designated sites (or candidates sites that have applied for designation). The Earth Network embraces diverse knowledge systems, including scientific, practitioner, indigenous and local knowledge systems.
It is committed to sharing solutions that can be implemented everywhere, and building capacity for transformative change, particularly among youth and local communities.
UNESCO Biodiversity Portal
UNESCO’s Biodiversity portal is the first global multidisciplinary database covering UNESCO designated sites, as well as a repository of good practices, projects and initiatives addressing issues related to biodiversity and sustainable use. Experts mobilised through the Earth Network are key contributors to the portal. The UNESCO Biodiversity Portal is funded by the Government of Italy.
Training workshops
Training, capacity-building and knowledge-sharing workshops are conducted with and for local actors, in order to train the staff of the sites on ecological restoration and on the reconciliation of human-nature relationships. these workshops are based on the local/regional context and needs.
Training will be provided so that local actors, particularly Indigenous Peoples, youth, and women can share their knowledge and lessons learned throughout the networks of UNESCO-designated sites. They will be ipmplemented through targeted activities, including during UNESCO key international events, and by participating in the United Nations decades (UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development) as well as regional meetings.
