SERES, cultivating youth leaders

In Guatemala and El Salvador, SERES is preparing young people to become leaders capable of building fairer, more sustainable communities.

The story began in 2009 with two young activists, Antonio and Corrina, who were determined to help young people in Central America acquire the skills to face growing inequalities. Also, to shape leaders that 鈥渦nderstand the needs of the community and drive actions to work with and for the people.鈥

Leading the way to a more sustainable world

To build fairer, more sustainable communities in Guatemala and El Salvador 鈥 one of the most vulnerable regions to climate change 鈥 the pair founded SERES to empower young people. Abigail, Dora, Juglio and Steven joined their ranks and expanded the network of 15鈥30-year-olds, based on a horizontal management model.

Awarded the UNESCO-Japan Award for Education for Sustainable Development in 2015, the association uses innovative teaching methods, such as project-based learning, to prepare young leaders. Their community centres provide access to services, resources and opportunities relating to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through Eco-Social Ventures, they also support promising local social and environmental enterprises.

Would you like to join Antonio and Corrina and help shape tomorrow鈥檚 leaders?
