Championing youth decision-making in global education, 31 March 2022
The SDG4Youth Network is a UNESCO-supported platform putting young people in the driving seat for education. The Sustainable Development Goals need young people's active participation. To this end, the SDG4Youth Network is part of the collective action of the Global Education Cooperation Mechanism.
The Network, made up of 18-29 years old members representing youth and student organizations active in education, chooses its representatives and leaders. Current elections, 1 to 3 April, will see the nomination of 5 representatives (one from each region) from 10 candidates nominated through a first round of elections in March. The election process is designed by the Interim Council in consultation with the Network鈥檚 members.
These five elected members will constitute the Executive Committee of the SDG4Youth Network. The Executive Committee will support the youth and student representative of the SDG 4-Education 2030 High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC). The HLSC steers the Global Education Cooperation Mechanism.
Added to this, the Network recently nominated the Youth Representatives to the . The Advisory Committee chaired by the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, and Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education of Sierra Leone, H.E. Mr. David Moinina Sengeh, provides strategic guidance on the substantive focus and preparations of the Summit.

UNESCO will continue to support and invest in youth and student leadership for young people that are already self-organizing, advocating, and contributing to better education decisions and policies," says Maki Katsuno-Hayashikawa, UNESCO.
