International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Celebration in South-East Europe and the Mediterranean region
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are crucial for the development of society, helping to address global challenges and advance economies. Despite recent progress towards narrowing the gender gap in STEM, pervasive gender stereotypes continue to hinder equality and significant challenges still remain.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe is organising a webinar convening notable female scientists, leaders in their respective STEM fields within South-East Europe and the Mediterranean region. These experts will share their success stories, address the challenges they have encountered and explore emerging opportunities in STEM career pathways.
The webinar aims to serve as a platform for empowering and inspiring the next generation of female scientists, leaders and innovators from the region. It also seeks to promote gender equality in STEM and equitable access to science for women and girls of all ages by:
- inspiring the younger audience through the success stories of accomplished female scientists and women in scientific leadership;
- discussing challenges that limit opportunities for women and girls;
- highlighting career pathways and opportunities in the field.
