Workshop on the integration and use of information and communication technology in the education of students with disabilities.

On Thursday 15 October 2015, the Khartoum office of UNESCO in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Directorate of Student Affairs, and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities made a workshop on the integration and use of information and communication technology (ICTs) in the education of students with disabilities. The workshop was supported by the Cairo office of UNESCO being part of the extra budgetary project 鈥淥pen Solutions and Innovations for Education, Science and People with disabilities鈥 funded by ICDL. The workshop took place in the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The workshop mainly tackled the importance of guaranteeing complete access to education for everyone without any exception. The minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed the ministry鈥檚 interest in students with disabilities through an integrated vision which aims to offer necessary aid for students in order to limit and eliminate barriers to their learning process and provide access to information and books in universities and higher institutions. The National Strategy to empower students with disabilities were presented.

The workshop also pointed out the growing need to guarantee equal opportunities to all students in order to achieve fairness of competition in the educational process. The main objective of the workshop was to emphasize on the urging necessity to help integrate disabled students through the use of ICTs given the current digital transformation of our society and the role they can play in granting opportunities that can erase barriers to access to higher education.
