UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Ibrahim Abdullah in Sudan

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalist Ibrahim Abdullah in El Fasher, in the state of North Darfur, on 28 June 2024.

I condemn the killing of Ibrahim Abdullah and call for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Journalists and media workers are essential channels of information during a conflict and their safety must be ensured by all parties.

Ibrahim Abdullah was a freelance journalist, covering the conflict in the country and publishing his work on his Facebook and YouTube pages. He was reportedly killed when an armed group shelled his house.
