UNESCO Director-General deplores death of journalist Mohammed Hamed Balousha in Palestine
I deplore the death of Mohammed Hamed Balousha and call for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances. I reiterate my call to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict, a status recently reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future.
Mohammed Hamed Balousha was a reporter for Al Mashhad Media. He was reportedly killed in a drone strike when returning from a medical check-up for previously sustained injuries.
