UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Yasser Mamdouh El-Fady in Palestine
I condemn the killing of Yasser Mamdouh El-Fady and call for a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death. I reiterate my urgent call on all parties to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict. Journalists play a critical role in ensuring the population鈥檚 right to information during conflicts.
Yasser Mamdouh El-Fady was a journalist for Kan鈥檃n News Agency. He was reportedly killed by sniper fire while reporting near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
