UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Saed Abu Nabhan in Palestine
I condemn the killing of Saed Abu Nabhan and call for a thorough and transparent investigation. Journalists play a crucial role in informing the world and ensuring the local population鈥檚 right to information. I reiterate my call to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict, a status recently reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future.
Saed Abu Nabhan worked for Alghad TV and as a freelance photographer for Anadolu Agency. He was reportedly shot dead by a sniper while working in central Gaza's Nuseirat area.
