UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Roberto Figueroa in Mexico

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned the killing of journalist Roberto Carlos Figueroa Bustos in Huitzilac City, in the State of Morelos, Mexico, on 26 April.

I condemn the killing of Roberto Figueroa. Local journalists fulfil an essential role in informing populations and investigating wrongdoing. They must be protected from any form of attack. I urge the authorities to investigate this killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Roberto Figueroa was kidnapped and later found killed in his vehicle. He was a local reporter and producer of Ac谩 en el show, in which he frequently dealt with topics like corruption.
