UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Murad Mirza Ibrahim in Iraq
I condemn the killing of journalist Murad Mirza Ibrahim and call for a thorough investigation into this death. I reiterate my call to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222/2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict.
Murad Mirza Ibrahim was a reporter for the broadcaster 脟ira TV. On 8 July, he was returning from an assignment with two media colleagues, when a drone reportedly struck their vehicle in Tal Qasab village. Murad Mirza Ibrahim succumbed to his injuries three days later on 11 July. His colleagues were also injured in the attack.
