UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Khaled Balel in Sudan
I condemn the killing of Khaled Balel and call for a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to account. Journalists and media workers are essential channels of information during a conflict and their safety must be ensured
Khaled Balel was a journalist and media director at the Sudanese Supreme Council for Media and Culture, and a member of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate. He was reportedly shot and killed while at his residence.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
