UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Kamran Dawar in Pakistan
I condemn the killing of journalist Kamran Dawar and call for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Journalists play a vital role in informing local populations and must be protected from all forms of violence.
Kamran Dawar was an online journalist producing content for his own media channel, Waziristan TV, on Facebook and Youtube. He was shot by unidentified assailants and later died as a result of his injuries. He had reportedly received threatening phone calls prior to his killing. He is the third journalist killed in Pakistan in May, and the fourth since the beginning of the year.
