UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Ahmed Al-Louh in Palestine
I condemn the killing of Ahmed Al-Louh and call for a thorough and transparent investigation. With every journalist killed, local populations are deprived of lifesaving humanitarian information. I reiterate my call to respect UN Security Council Resolution 2222 unanimously adopted in 2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict, a status recently reaffirmed in the UN Pact for the Future.
Ahmed Al-Louh was a freelance journalist working with several media outlets including Al Jazeera. He was reportedly killed in an airstrike in Gaza City while covering the rescue operations from an earlier airstrike.
