Sudanese Intangible Cultural Heritage (Convention 2003): Assessment. Successful finish of the project
The project 鈥淪trengthening national capacities for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in Sudan: assessing needs and developing a project proposal鈥 was successfully finished in the end of May. The project was led by CLT/CRE/ITH with participation of the Khartoum office of UNESCO, Sudanese National Commission for Education, Science, and Culture, and Sudan Ministry of Culture. Project was funded by Abu Dubai Tourism and Culture Authority (ADTCA).
The objective of the project was to identify stockholders, institutional capacities, human resources, which are needed for safeguarding the Sudanese living Intangible Cultural Heritage. The outcome of the project is to develop a multi-year project proposal for safeguarding of Sudanese Intangible Heritage within the local contexts of the country and to meet UNESCO global Capacity-building programme for strengthen national safeguarding capacities.
Active phase of the work on the projects continues from March to May of 2015.
Results of the assessment were well discussed by the heritage professionals, government officers, policy makers, administrative staff from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Tourism, Antiquities and Wildlife, Culture Committee of the NatCom, Cultural mapping Committee and many others national bodies.
Project team, using the delivered assessment, now concentrates on the proposal to the same donor for the project of safeguarding Sudanese Intangible Heritage itself.
Underlining the success of the project, Sudanese Permanent Delegation to UNESCO organized the event 鈥淪udanese intangible cultural heritage richness and diversity鈥 in UNESCO HQ, Paris, on the 2nd of June 2015. His excellency Mr. Nasreldin Ahmed Wali, Sudan Ambassador in France and the Permanent Delegate of Sudan to UNESCO, welcomed the participants, and then Sudanese musicians and singers demonstrated to public the richness and diversity of the country鈥檚 cultural heritage.
