I condemn the killing of Ricardo Alcides Avila and urge the authorities to investigate this crime to ensure that everyone responsible is brought to justice. Impunity must not be allowed to prevail for acts of violence targeting journalists, who serve people鈥檚 need for information and contribute to democratic debate.

Avila was a journalist and cameraman for Metro radio and television whose staff are reported to have received threats due to the broadcaster鈥檚 editorial policy.
