Youth Summit: Transforming Education in Southeast Asia
SDG4Youth Network member Ilan Enverga is part of the team that will organize the regional Transforming Education Youth Summit with the Southeast Asian Ministers for Education Organization, Regional Center for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEO-INNOTECH). The event will be held at the SEAMEO-INNOTECH Complex in Manila, Philippines, on 27 and 28 June 2023. This Summit is designed as a youth-led event which will be managed by the youth leaders themselves.
"Through this Southeast Asia Youth Summit, we can sense the Youth Declaration, launched at Transforming Education Summit in September 2022, is finally taking its much needed steps forward," says Ilan Enverga. "We are moving to the stage of concrete actions that are strategic and cross sectoral. By bringing together the key stakeholders in education from the entire region, we are able to learn about innovations that can apply to our respective countries. We are able to support one another in dealing with the challenges that come with advocating for education reforms, and we are able to collaborate on efforts to push forward this global youth movement to transform education."
The event aims to
• have an increased understanding of and take greater ownership of the Youth Declaration to transforming education
• share and learn from the innovations and working models of education transformation on the ground
• gather young people’s collective views and youth-led concrete actions to transforming education
• collectively undertake advocacy efforts to ensure effective implementation of the concrete actions
• offer recommendations to strengthen the SDG4Youth Network in Southeast Asia and its connection to the Global Youth Movement
The Summit is being supported by its partners and sponsors including the Department of Education, UNICEF Philippines, Philippine National Commission for UNESCO, the Head Foundation, USAID Opportunity 2.0 Program, ASEAN Secretariat, SEAMEO Secretariat, and other SEAMEO centers in the ASEAN region.

"I hope this upcoming event in the Philippines sparks similar events in other regions and motivates more ministries to empower youth to co-create the future of education," concludes Ilan.
