Virtual Conference for Women Archaeologists and Palaeontologists (VCWAP)

Cross-Cutting Themes

The Virtual Conference for Women Archaeologists and Palaeontologists (VCWAP), initiated in 2021, is a pioneering event designed to promote the visibility and contributions of women researchers from all around the world in these disciplines. Organised under the Association for Early-Career Women Archaeologists and Palaeontologists (AWAP), the conference is entirely online, inclusive, and free, featuring annually over 70 international women researchers without permanent position as speakers, with an audience of more than 300 attendees of both sexes. Researchers from 5 continents make up the audience and speakers. VCWAP fosters a supportive environment for presenting research, offering awards, and hosting round-table discussions on gender challenges in science. VCWAP also supports women paleoartists by organizing a virtual paleoart gallery during the event. Complementing the conference, AWAP engages younger audiences, especially girls, through outreach, school activities, and mentorship, inspiring the next generation of women in science.
