France¡¯s national support budget for open science


The French National Fund for Open Science is the financial instrument of the French Plan for Open Science (). Its purpose is to provide financial support for projects and initiatives moving towards the development of open science. The Fund is financed through contributions from the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It can also receive contributions from French universities and research performing organisations.

The Fund creates a budget that allows, in the form of calls for projects or targeted support to actions of national or international interest, the financing of open science initiatives considered to have strong structuring potential.

The national open science budget is around 5 to 6M€ a year, and 2 to 3M€ are dedicated each year to the FNSO. Funded projects are presented online:
