The (SEAMEO) underscored the critical need to urgently turn transforming education commitments into actions across Southeast Asia. This call-to-action reflects SEAMEO's unwavering commitment to: 

• advancing gender equality 

• empowering girls and women; and  

• promoting foundational learning  

   

According to Habibah binti Abdul Rahim, Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat, SEAMEO’s move will “empower children, youth, teachers, and most importantly, the marginalized communities through the provision of equitable and inclusive quality education in accordance with the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”  

SEAMEO places a strategic emphasis on dismantling gender barriers in education. By prioritizing gender equality, the organization envisions to provide girls and women an inclusive educational environment for them to thrive. It also stresses the significance of foundational learning as the bedrock of a child's educational journey. 

At the core of SEAMEO's vision lies a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that education not only tears down the gender barriers but also reaches the most marginalized communities. By fostering an environment that prioritizes equity, SEAMEO aims to bridge gaps, make education accessible to, and provide opportunities for underprivileged segments of the population, directly contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. 

SEAMEO's call to translate education commitments into action is a direct and bold response to the urgent need for a comprehensive, inclusive, and quality education system in Southeast Asia. In prioritizing gender equality and foundational learning, and in empowering girls and marginalized communities, SEAMEO ignites the efforts to transform Southeast Asia’s educational landscape and to uplift all members of the society in the region, leaving no one behind in the pursuit of sustainable development.
