SHEROES: Leaving No One Behind Module 7
The Caribbean Sheroes Initiative is a joint project of UNESCO and the Institute for Gender and Development Studies Regional Coordinating Office (IGDS-RCO), University of the West Indies, Mona Campus aimed at producing knowledge and strengthening skills among young people to promote gender equality. The Initiative also honors Civil Society Organizations that champion women’s rights and gender equality.
This Initiative is significant because the Caribbean continues to be affected by high rates of gender-based violence wherein approximately one in three Caribbean women will be a victim of gender-based violence in her lifetime. Despite the ongoing work of individual activists and organizations; social norms, political and economic systems remain entrenched in patriarchy and historical and colonial experiences continue to undermine the autonomy and well-being of women, girls, and other gender and sexual minorities.
This 7th Module of the Training Manual on Gender Equality, Advocacy and Development elaborates on the past modules, focusing on pedagogical material that operationalizes the Leaving No One Behind approach (LNOB) and focuses on advancing gender equality for women in situations of vulnerability. These include women with disabilities, women facing intersecting forms on inequalities, women facing racial discrimination and women in rural areas. The Training Module, directed at youth, provides an operational entry-point for youth to engage and act positively within the LNOB approach, within their communities and countries.
This Module was also piloted during the Sheroes Academy 2023, Leaving No One Behind Edition. Therefore, in efforts to meaningfully include youth voices, this resource addresses the needs of youth and includes feedback and opinions from youth participants.
