"Seminar on Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Sustainable Development: An Invitation from UNESCO and the Chilean Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage"

October 20 is celebrated as National Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, a day that contributes to the understanding, reflection, construction, and preservation of cultural identity. In commemoration and in line with the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Cultural Expressions, agreed on October 20, 2005, UNESCO and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage of Chile invite participation in the seminar "Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Sustainable Development. Convention 2005".

This activity, which will take place from 9 am to 2 pm, is the initial milestone for a free training course that UNESCO will provide on the 2005 Convention starting on November 2. The October 20 seminar will offer an updated look at the mentioned Convention and the challenges in relation to the 2030 Agenda and the reality of Latin America and the Caribbean. It will be a reflection on the role of culture for sustainable development; the challenges for the strengthening and internationalization of cultural industries in developing countries; the importance of civil society participation to achieve the objectives of the Convention, and the possibilities of enhancing mutual understanding and respect among different cultures through interculturality.

Together with panelists specialized in issues of cultural diversity at the national and regional level, concrete experiences for the protection and promotion of cultural diversity will be discussed, and the existing limitations will be analyzed, allowing the imagining of innovative proposals.

The seminar will take place in person in room A1 of the Gabriela Mistral Center (GAM) located at Av. Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 227, Santiago, Chile. In turn, it will be broadcast through the of OREALC/UNESCO Santiago, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, and GAM. The activity is free to access, prior registration is required.
