Netherlands' education response to the influx of Ukrainian students

The government stated that all Ukrainian children, even without a residence permit, are subject to compulsory education between the age of 5 until 18, just like Dutch children.
Parents are allowed to sign their children into any school. The school will then decide whether the pupil can be admitted or whether he or she must first attend a transitional class to improve his or her language level. Ukrainian students will receive extra language lessons at school so they can learn Dutch as quickly as possible.
Most Ukrainian children will attend a special school or class for newcomers and the government aims for all refugees under 27 to obtain a basic qualification. In case of large numbers of learners, a separate, extensive facility for Ukrainians may be created.
The municipality of Amsterdam started setting up psychological care, daytime activities, education, and support to gain employment.
Ukrainians can work as teachers at Dutch schools if they apply for recognition of their diploma and school boards procure a work permit. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment intends to temporarily broaden the access to the labor market for these refugees in the short term by means of an exemption from the obligation to arrange a work permit.
