Launch of Media and Information Literacy MOOC for Educators and Learners Sign up now !

In the rapidly changing digital age, staying informed and resilient on the Internet is critical. UNESCO and Athabasca University have launched the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) “The Media and Information Literacy for Inclusive and Better Futures” with the goal of empowering educators and learners to effectively analyze online information and make informed decisions about their digital consumption.

Based on the UNESCO curriculum resource , this MOOC teachers participants the skills they need to become informed digital citizens. By taking the course, they can prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the digital era.

The course is intended to be flexible and accessible, allowing participants to learn at their own pace. It covers a wide range of critical topics, such as privacy and online safety, freedom of expression and access to information, the fundamentals of AI and algorithm, global citizenship, misinformation and disinformation, and hate speech.

Participants will receive hands-on, practical instruction that will enable them to:

  1. Understand how digital technology and media affect society and communication.
  2. Improve critical thinking skills in order to evaluate online information and content.
  3. Recognize and counter misinformation, propaganda, and online manipulation.
  4. Consult reliable sources and make informed decisions.
  5. Learn about the ethical and legal aspects of information use, as well as being an empowered  digital citizen.

The Media and Information Literacy MOOC provides a dynamic learning environment that encourages participants to learn from one another. Participants will be able to interact with a global community of learners, educators, and experts. They can also share their perspectives, ask questions, and receive feedback on their work through interactive forums, group projects, and online discussions.

The MOOC also includes a variety of supplemental resources, such as videos, podcasts, and articles, to help participants understand the topics covered. The course instructors carefully select and curate these resources, providing participants with a well-rounded learning experience in media and information literacy.

Since 2007, 91鶹Ʒ been a leader in promoting media and information literacy. This course is part of an initiative to increase people’s access to media and information literacy education worldwide.
