UNESCO Almaty Regional Office, in collaboration with its implementation partner, Fund for the Development of Media Consulting in Central Asia, launched the #ThinkBeforeSharing Media Campaign in Kyrgyzstan in December 2024. The campaign's primary goal is to raise awareness and enhance critical thinking skills among Kyrgyz social media users by promoting responsible online behavior, the initiative aims to combat hate speech and curb the spread of misinformation.

The campaign is dedicated to enhancing media and information literacy, promoting responsible online behavior, and combating hate speech and misinformation among Kyrgyz social media users.

Together, we can foster a safer and more informed digital space.

 

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) indeed plays a vital role in fostering critical thinking and resilience against misinformation, while also promoting responsible civic engagement and lasting online peace. The Media Literacy Index notes that countries with higher media freedom are better equipped to recognize objective and biased information, as well as identify fake news.

Applying digital skills like fact-checking ability is essential for helping individuals navigate online information and combat disinformation and misinformation

Combatting hate speech is essential for fostering an inclusive society.
