In this context, UNESCO organises an official side event addressing key issues around governance of AI, featuring voices from all around the world, based on its mandate by 194 Member States to implement the Recommendation on the Ethics of AI.

This high-level discussion will bring together ministers, policymakers, and key stakeholders to explore how UNESCO’s work is shaping global AI governance and policy readiness. The event will feature presentations on UNESCO’s key AI initiatives, highlight its engagement with the African Union and African countries on the AU’s Continental AI Strategy, and facilitate ministerial exchanges on best practices and lessons learned from the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI. Additionally, the session will provide a platform for strengthening partnerships and stakeholder engagement in an increasingly dynamic AI policy landscape, fostering international collaboration for inclusive and responsible AI governance.
