Early warning systems for school dropout prevention in Latin America and the Caribbean
The duration of remote learning in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2020 raised concerns that continuing such education, without in-person learning, would lead to higher dropout rates. As a concrete response to this problem, several countries developed early warning systems (EWS) to prevent school dropout, thus providing a significant boost to a tool that saw little development in the region up until 2020.

This document explains what the EWS consist of and their operating logic, particularly examining what data and mechanisms these systems use to generate alerts, as well as the link that can be established with educational management information systems (EMIS).
