Community of Specialists in data for Educational Planning
Community of specialists on data for educational planning
This is a community of practice whose purpose is to promote the management and dissemination of knowledge on the production and use of statistical information for educational planning and monitoring, in a network format.
In this space, people interested in the subject can exchange experiences, access innovative perspectives and enrich the existing wealth of tools, concepts and accumulated knowledge in the region.
This proposal arises from the alliance between the Regional Bureau of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC/UNESCO Santiago) and the Latin American Office of UNESCO's International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP). The community operates within the UNESCO-IIEP Network of Education Policy Specialists.

The functions and uses of information systems have been enhanced by the emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The availability of relevant and up-to-date data has been a critical factor for educational monitoring during remote teaching periods and to support school reopening processes.
Horizon and purposes of the Community
The Community of specialists in data for educational planning seeks to generate a space for exchange that supports the development of information systems for educational management in the region. To this end, it intends to contribute in different areas:
- Support Latin American and Caribbean countries to develop their EMIS in terms of technology, scope, quality and dissemination of information.
- To accompany the growing sophistication of information systems with a greater use of the information produced.
- Strengthen strategies for linking data, decision-making and educational management processes.
The Community of Specialists in Data for Educational Planning seeks to integrate the wealth of knowledge developed in the field of Information Systems for Educational Management. We envision the community as a space for exchange and learning so that specialists and officials from Latin America and the Caribbean can advance in the development and use of their information systems.
