The 58th Meeting of National Coordinators of the UNESCO Latin American Laboratory for the Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE) is being organized in conjunction with the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic. This face-to-face meeting primarily aims to discuss the progress of the Comparative and Explanatory Regional Study (ERCE 2025), which covers 19 countries.

Background

ERCE 2025, which began its preparations in 2022, started with a phase of curricular analysis based on documents from the participating countries. Throughout 2023, tools were developed to measure learning achievement and its associated factors in the region. The pilot application of the study began in September 2023 in Southern Hemisphere countries and is scheduled to conclude in July 2024.

Meeting objectives

During this meeting, the following will be presented and discussed:

  • Pilot data analysis plans: Focused on learning achievement, associated factors, and socio-emotional skills.
  • Activity schedule for 2024: Includes the continuation of the pilot in Northern Hemisphere countries, data processing, and analysis stages.
  • Coordination for future stages of the study: Details about the field operation of ERCE 2025 and assigned responsibilities.

Participants

The meeting will be attended by national coordinators, representatives from the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic, technical delegates and specialists, authorities from UNESCO Santiago, and implementing partners of the study. Attendance of approximately forty people is expected.

Closing Seminar

The event will conclude with a seminar jointly organized by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic and UNESCO Santiago, where the progress will be shared and strategies for implementing ERCE 2025 will be strengthened.

Expected outcomes

  1. Dissemination of analysis plans: To detail how the data obtained from the ERCE 2025 pilot will be analyzed.
  2. Presentation of recommendations: To display the suggestions made by the National Technical Advisory Committee (CTAN) for the analysis plans.
  3. Coordination of field operations: To establish and coordinate responsibilities for the implementation of the ERCE 2025 pilot.

This meeting will be a crucial opportunity to align efforts, review progress, and ensure the quality and effectiveness of the ERCE 2025 study in improving education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
