The Kingdom of the Netherlands will host the UNESCO International Conference “Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of UNESCO Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict”, from 13-15 May 2024, with a welcoming ceremony at the Peace Palace, on 13 May 2024. The 70th anniversary of the 1954 Hague Convention presents an opportunity to collectively reflect on the achievements and associated best practices, along with challenges and difficulties these instruments entail.

This landmark event, organized by UNESCO in cooperation with the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and with the support of the City of The Hague, will launch the anniversary celebrations across the globe throughout 2024. UNESCO together with the Kingdom of the Netherlands have the pleasure to invite the global community to examine the future orientations of the 1954 Hague Convention and its two (1954 and 1999) Protocols, at the historical location and date of its signature.
