Launch of the Dashboard of Country Commitments and Actions to Transform Education
Global education leaders will meet at UNESCO on 17 June 2024 for the event Accelerating progress towards SDG4: Stocktake of Transformative Actions in Education, convened by the SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC).
This will open a series of 2024 global meetings which will support the advancement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education (SDG4), such as at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in July, in September and the Global Education Meeting in October.
The day-long event will provide a unique opportunity for global leaders to review country progress towards SDG4, showcase transformative actions undertaken by countries since the September 2022 , and reaffirm education’s position on the global political agenda.
The SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee, as the global education apex body, was mandated by the UN Secretary-General to ensure the effective follow up of the Transforming Education Summit. In this regard, accomplishments have been made in many aspects in the past two years, through the translation of country commitments into actions and their monitoring, global advocacy efforts and youth engagement, advancement of the education finance agenda, and the implementation of a set of global thematic initiatives.
The event will allow to build on these achievements, while also identifying remaining challenges and gaps calling for innovative solutions and continued collective action moving forward. Ahead of the Summit of the Future, it will allow to reaffirm the centrality of education as a key enabler of all Sustainable Development Goals. In doing so, the event will also pave the way for the 2024 Global Education Meeting, to be convened by UNESCO and hosted by Brazil on 31 October and 1 November, side by side with the G20 ministerial meeting on education.
Garnering political attention as a driver of sustainable development, education must continue to be placed high on the global political agenda.
