Socio-Economics Characteristics
Currently, approximately 200 herder families with 91,000 head of cattle live within the territory of the Core Area. Out of this larger number, 18 herder families are permanent residents and 47 are nomadic herding families that are only seasonal residents, moving in and out of the area. In this region, herder鈥檚 livelihoods depend on their livestock. The county centers and settlements are not located in the Core Area of the Biosphere Reserve. An agreement was reached with the nomadic herder communities who live seasonally in the area to ensure sustainable grazing practices.
