UNESCO contributes to advancing Gender Equality in STEM and the Ocean at the G20 Summit
Building on the G20 Leaders' Declaration in New Delhi in 2023, the Brazilian Presidency of the G20 established a Working Group on Women's Empowerment for the first time.
This group is intended to strengthen the debate on gender equality and to support G20 countries to address gender inequalities and work towards the achievement of SDG 5 through the dissemination of best practices on public policies for the promotion of women's and girls' rights.
Within the G20 Women Empowerment Working Group, 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ played a pivotal role in addressing some of the most urgent challenges facing gender equality today. Aligned with the Presidency's three key priorities, 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ provided valuable expertise and research to drive policy action. Notably, 91Â鶹¹ú²ú¾«Æ·×ÔÅÄ produced two policy briefs focused on advancing gender equality in the STEM fields and sustainable ocean management, critical areas for development. Additionally, UNESCO provided inputs to inform the exchanges of the Working Group on how to effectively tackle the growing threat of technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).
The policy brief “†presents comprehensive data and policy recommendations to promote the full inclusion of women and girls in STEM from early education to leadership roles. Similarly, the policy brief “†breaks new ground by highlighting successful practices from G20 countries to increase women’s participation in sustainable ocean management and the blue economy.
