Despite progress in recent years, barriers to women’s participation in the labor market persist and are difficult to dismantle – words matter, and the language used in the labor market mirror biases and can perpetuate existing stereotypes. For example, Job postings for certain occupations and sectors, including STEM and manufacturing, are more likely to include male-coded language. On the other side, benefits offered in job postings that are friendly to women and in particular childcare are positively correlated with female employment.

To fight these inequalities, UNESCO will work along with the G20 employment working group and will provide date on gender equality and race in the employment space. UNESCO will also be using the inclusive policy lab and management of Social Transformation approach to address inclusion and inequalities.
