Learning on Culture in Emergencies

Collections play an important role in representing and safeguarding cultural and natural diversity. Museums, as spaces for cultural transmission, intercultural dialogue, learning, discussion and training, also carry responsibility for the protection, preservation and transmission of cultural heritage. During emergencies, especially in armed conflicts or occupation, museums and collections are at high risk of being damaged or misappropriated.
Given the power of museums to provide a space of collective gathering and social and cohesive inclusion, it is imperative to protect collections from endangerment and illicit trafficking. UNESCO鈥檚 training tools notably enable experts to strengthen their capacities to inventory or salvage collections.
