Young Entrepreneur Gathering 2019: Let鈥檚 Develop a Collaborative Vision to Enliven Kotatua

A hundred young entrepreneurs from Kotatua Jakarta convened at the Museum Bank Indonesia over three days (26-28 April 2019) last week. This event is part of UNESCO-Citi Foundation project 鈥淐reative Youth at Indonesian Heritage Sites鈥欌 that supports a total of 400 emerging young entrepreneurs living in and around famous heritage destinations, including Borobudur-Prambanan, Lake Toba and historic town of Kotatua Jakarta. The project intends to build the capacity of young entrepreneurs in taking advantage of business opportunities offered by the heritage sites while also enhancing the cultural value of the place.
There are 100 project beneficiaries from Kotatua identified through mapping exercise in several districts of Kotatua such as Glodok, Pekojan, Kotatua North Jakarta, Kotatua West Jakarta, in collaboration with the Centre of Architectural Documentation (Pusat Dokumentasi Arsitektur). These young entrepreneurs represent 10 creative industry sectors, including in culinary, music, crafts, performance arts, community-based tourism, product design, fine arts, traditional practices, fashion, and beauty products.
The three-day event offered a creative market place with different performances and hands-on activities to showcase the wide range of creative industries of Kotatua Jakarta.
Acting Deputy Governor for Culture and Tourism of Jakarta Provincial Government, Mr. Oswar Mungkasa opened the event and expressed his support to this initiative. Meanwhile, Hans Thulstrup, on behalf the Director of UNESCO Office, Jakarta remarked in his welcoming message 鈥淲e hope the 100 young Kotatua entrepreneurs and their counterparts from other parts of Indonesia; to come together, to work together as a group, and to develop a collaborative vision to enliven Kotatua as a creative space, while appreciating its heritage values,鈥
Director, Country Head of Corporate Affairs Citi Indonesia Elvera N. Makki also conveyed encouragement to the young entrepreneurs while highlighting the importance of financial literacy as a key for economic inclusion.
