The primary focus will be the prevention and mitigation of fires, a need that arose from the events that occurred in October 2022. In this collaborative process, the indigenous community Mau’Henua, administrator of the heritage site, and various local actors relevant in emergency management, such as CONAF, Senapred, Firefighters, the Provincial Delegation, and the Municipality of Rapa Nui, will work together. The goal is to develop a coordinated and agreed-upon action plan for emergency situations.
Once the workshop sessions conclude, in November 2023, trainings will be carried out focused on the conservation of archaeological heritage and on firefighting techniques. These joint efforts seek to protect the invaluable heritage at Rano Raraku and foster a sense of belonging and shared responsibility among all participants.
This workshop and the subsequent trainings represent essential steps on the path towards the protection and preservation of Rapa Nui's cultural legacy. They are a testament to the community's determination to work collectively and ensure the preservation of our heritage for future generations.
