In a global context that strongly promotes gender equality, universities play a crucial role in advancing inclusive practices and eradicating discrimination. This colloquium will provide an opportunity to analyse how higher education institutions are adopting sustainable policies and strategies in this area.

Among the highlights, the University of Chile will present the "Sello Genera Igualdad" ("Gender Equality Seal"), a certification system for gender equality standards recognised in 2022 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This model aims to institutionalise gender equity through structured and sustainable policies. During the presentation, the development process of the seal, the challenges encountered, and the achievements made will be explored, as well as its potential to be replicated in other institutions across the region.

The event will also feature contributions from representatives of Cuba’s Ministry of Higher Education and Uruguay’s Ministry of Social Development, who will provide comparative perspectives from their respective national contexts. This regional approach will help identify common challenges and new opportunities for cooperation to advance gender equality in higher education.

The colloquium seeks not only to highlight best practices but also to foster critical discussion on the persistent gaps in institutionalising gender equality, promoting shared learning and partnerships across Latin America.
