OVERALL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The UNESCO Office in Nepal is implementing a wide number of educational initiatives in close cooperation with the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education. Science and Technology, the National Planning Commission and the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO.
To enhance effective coordination, the Organization invites applications from qualified Nepalese candidates for the following position. The selected candidate will coordinate a team within the Education Unit and oversee project implementation and progress monitoring under the close supervision of the National Professional Officer (NPO)/Chief of Education. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of all education sector projects while maintaining strong coordination with partners and stakeholders. Acting as the deputy to the National Professional Officer, the candidate will assist in the management of the educational portfolio and represent the Organization in the NPO's absence.
The key responsibilities of the position include:
Assist the NPO in planning, implementing and reporting on programme activities in the field of Education.
Provide strategic advice in planning, design, coordination, implementation and monitoring of education programmes and projects in Nepal, ensuring alignment with UNESCO's global frameworks and national education priorities;
Contribute to resource mobilization efforts by preparing innovative concept notes and project proposals that align with UNESCO priorities and demonstrate the transformative potential of UNESCO's education initiatives.
Foster collaboration across sectors within the Office to drive intersectoral initiatives that enhance the quality, inclusiveness, and relevance of education programs, aligning them with broader UNESCO priorities and frameworks.
Oversee the effective daily execution of project activities, making sure that they are in line with UNESCO's goals and objectives and that results are delivered on time.
Represent and participate in important workshops, and meetings including the Local Education Development Partner Group (LEDPG), technical committees, thematic working groups, and other relevant platforms to position UNESCO’s visibility.
Facilitate ongoing communication and coordination with project partners and stakeholders, fostering collaborative relationships to ensure the successful execution of project objectives
Contribute to knowledge management, reporting, and the development of communication materials for the outreach of UNESCO’s programme.
Monitor the progress of UNESCO’s education programs, ensuring adherence to objectives, timelines, and budgets.
Contribute to the preparation of periodic progress reports, including quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
Coordinate the organization and delivery of capacity-building workshops and training sessions
Coordinate in organizing events such as UNESCO’s International Days, and other thematic activities and meetings organized by UNESCO.
Assist the Head of Education in preparing work plans, budgets, and other administrative documentation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master’s degree or MPhil degree preferably in education.
Work Experience
10-12 years of experience of working in the area of education, human rights, political sciences and/or international development, preferably with a UN agency.
5 years of experience of working in project planning and management (preferably in UN agencies).
Skills and Competencies
Good knowledge in the following areas:
SDG 4 Education 2030 Agenda and its Framework for Action, as well as the Education Sector's global and regional strategies and priorities, and SDG 4 M&E framework.
Education system in Nepal.
UNESCO’s mandate and actions in education
Sustainable Development Goals.
Project planning, management and evaluation skills.
Sound knowledge of IT skills required including word processing, data management, presentation software and other relevant professional software.
Language
Excellent written and spoken Nepali and English language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Work experience in the UN or international organizations;
Experience in developing and managing joint UN education projects.
