UNESCO's first 'Concert for the Ocean', performed by Artist for Peace Eijin Nimura at the Art Basel Fair in Miami
Within the scope of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030, UNESCO in partnership with Nautilus Ocean together with the Schmidt Ocean Institute and the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, provided a unique and inspiring event 鈥 An Evening of Ocean Art, Science, and Music, and showcased the 鈥淎rt at Sea鈥 exhibition at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, during the ART BASEL Miami.
Through art, we can have a different window on the oceans, a window that can take us closer to the reality of the oceans. The vision that is brought by the art is different to what science alone can do.
The director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay underlined the power of the arts in strengthening the global commitment to preserving our oceans.
The internationally-renowned violinist and UNESCO Artist for Peace, Eijin Nimura, gave a musical performance entitled 鈥楥oncert for the Ocean鈥, the first of its kind.
Inspired by the vastness of the sea, he played enchanting melodies of Eug猫ne Ysa每e, Cliff Edwards, and Paganini, inspired by the composers鈥 connections with the ocean.
I play this music with hope that people around the world take action to protect the oceans.
The events aimed to raise awareness, inspire action, and foster a deeper understanding of the intricate connection between humanity and the marine environment.
