Eijin Nimura, UNESCO Artist for Peace, performed at the 20th Anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami
At UNESCO Headquarters, the event featured survivors' testimonies, a concert, and a panel discussion with global experts, bringing together voices of recovery, hope, and unity.
The evening also featured an open-air exhibition along the UNESCO fences, prepared in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the science magazine, Nautilus. The exhibition included portraits by Matt Porteous and commemorative artworks reflecting the legacy of the tsunami and the resilience of affected communities.
This commemorative evening was a reminder of the collective strength that emerges in the face of adversity and the importance of ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and communities in tsunami-prone regions.
