During a UNESCO technical visit to Valpara铆so from November 7 to 11, 2022, the head of the Latin America and Caribbean Unit of the World Heritage Center, Mauro Rosi, and the expert Luis Ignacio G贸mez Arriola met with authorities and various local stakeholders to analyze the site's conservation challenges. The report resulting from this visit confirms that the Historic District of the port city of Valpara铆so maintains its attributes of outstanding universal value and provides 31 medium- and long-term recommendations that will serve as a guide to orient the work of the Municipal Corporation for the Administration of the World Heritage Site (SPM).
The report also suggests the implementation of a comprehensive, participatory and sustainable management plan. One example is the strengthening of incentives applicable to the rehabilitation and recovery of properties in the different planning instruments.
Among the recommendations, the experts also express the need for cooperation between different State institutions to strengthen the current planning tools applicable to the World Heritage site, through the coordination of various ministries.
In the short term, it is suggested to place official plaques with the UNESCO World Heritage emblem together with an informative text on the outstanding universal value of the site.
