On June 24, 2024, in Tripoli, Lebanon, the UNESCO Beirut Office presented and discussed Rachid Karami International Fair’s (RKIF) Conservation Management Plan (CMP). This event signifies a significant step in safeguarding the future of RKIF, a World Heritage Site in Danger listed on January 2023.

The CMP, designed as a guiding framework for RKIF's future conservation and development, was introduced to stakeholders, community actors, and professionals. The presentation outlined the methodology, rationale, and benefits of the adopted recommended conservation policies, stressing on their importance in ensuring RKIF's sustainable future.

Engaging discussions enriched the event as attendees actively participated, providing feedback and sharing best practices. This interaction underscored the collaborative effort required to preserve RKIF's historical and cultural significance. Developed by the UNESCO Beirut Office with financial support from the Getty Foundation's Keeping It Modern grant, RKIF’s CMP offers comprehensive insights into the history, preservation challenges, and physical vulnerabilities of the Fair.

The CMP also outlines essential conservation policies to maintain RKIF's significance during future restoration initiatives or reuse efforts. It will be available online through UNESCO and Getty Foundation webpages by early July 2024, thus ensuring accessibility for the wider public, including site administrators, investors, and professionals in engineering, construction, architecture, and heritage preservation. In a separate ceremony end April, the CMP had been presented to the Prime Ministry’s Office and the concerned line ministries.

This event aimed not only to foster knowledge sharing but also to build consensus among stakeholders on RKIF's conservation and development path. 

By promoting informed decision-making, the CMP presentation marked a pivotal moment in RKIF’s journey toward sustainable preservation.
