UNESCO highlights girls' education at KCON LA 2024
"Educating girls transforms lives, families, and communities. It reduces child marriage, improves health, and boosts economic development," said Justine Sass.
CJ Group and UNESCO have been collaborating since 2014 to improve educational opportunities for girls in developing countries, particularly through the UNESCO Malala Fund for Girls’ Right to Education. Despite progress in achieving gender parity in primary and lower secondary education, 122 million girls are still out of school globally, highlighting the ongoing need for such initiatives.
The partnership has led to successful advocacy campaigns, significant fundraising, and collaborations with local leaders to remove educational barriers for girls. Notable achievements include creating safe school environments in Nigeria, promoting education among ethnic minority girls in Vietnam, and enhancing literacy and financial skills among indigenous women in Guatemala.
One significant initiative, "We Are Able," launched in 2019, focuses on improving education and employment opportunities for ethnic minority girls and women in Viet Nam. This project, engaging 16,000 individuals, fosters a safe and inclusive educational environment and reflects the deep commitment of both CJ Group and UNESCO to support girls' education. The project emphasizes the importance of girls' education for societal development and gender equality, reinforcing the idea that investing in girls' education is crucial for building peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.
